Notably 2

An Important Note for iOS 5 Users

With the recent release of iOS 5, some Notably users have discovered a small but inconvenient bug just after upgrading their iPads. Specifically, the plus button in Notably's top toolbar—used to create new notes and notebooks—can sometimes stop working after the upgrade. Tapping the plus button will still produce the popover shown below, but after selecting an option no new note or notebook will be created.

If selecting an option from the plus button popover doesn't create a new note or notebook, there's any easy fix.

While a permanent patch for this issue will be appearing in an app update very soon, there's actually a quick DIY way that you can fix the problem right now. In brief: all you need to do is to fully quit Notably (removing it from background running) and then relaunch it with your iPad in the landscape orientation. Here's a step-by-step guide to walk you through it:

1. First, exit Notably and double-press the iPad's Home button while on the main (Springboard) screen. This will bring up the Multitasking Bar at the bottom of the display; in it you can see the apps that are currently "paused" in the background on your device.

Tap the Home button twice to bring up the Multitasking Bar.

2. Now tap and hold the Notably icon in the Multitasking Bar until all the icons start to jiggle. Tap the red minus button that has appeared in the corner of the Notably icon to fully quit the app (not to worry—this doesn't delete Notably, it just temporarily stops it from running in the background). Press the home button again or tap the screen to close the Multitasking Bar.

Tap and hold on the Notably icon, then tap the red minus to fully quit the app.

3. Ready for the last step? Turn your iPad into landscape orientation (wide part of the screen parallel to the floor) and restart Notably. That's it! Your plus button should now be working again.

Re-launch Notably with your iPad in the landscape orientation.

Note that once you've followed this recipe once, you can continue to use Notably in any orientation that you like, and the plus button will continue to work even when exiting the app and returning to it later.

Thank you very much for your patience with these growing pains, and rest assured that November's app updates will permanently patch this small glitch. As always, please don't hesitate to get in touch with your feedback and comments!
